Is It Time for Braces?

Braces do more than just create an attractive smile. They help fix jaw and other health issues that can affect your quality of life. The right orthodontic treatment will provide years of smiling, eating, talking, and laughing and a lifelong boost to your self-confidence. We offer orthodontic care for all ages.

Pediatric Orthodontics

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends children visit the orthodontist for an evaluation by age 7. An early orthodontist visit probably won’t lead to braces at that age, but seeing the orthodontist early can help simplify treatment later and head off problems before they get worse.

We will check to see:

  • If your child’s jaws are growing properly.
  • If there’s enough room for your child’s permanent teeth to grow in.
  • If the correct number of permanent teeth are forming.
  • If your child’s palate is wide enough. Children who snore, for example, may have obstructive sleep apnea, which can lead to health problems. But widening their palate can help treat the problem.

If it looks like your child will need orthodontic treatment at some point, we can advise you on when and how to begin.

Orthodontics for Teenagers

Braces are a rite of passage for many elementary and middle schoolers with crooked teeth or overbites. Some 4 million children and teens age 14 and under get braces every year. If your child needs braces, he or she will fit right in.

Orthodontic treatment often begins between the ages of 9 and 14. At this age, your child’s head and mouth are still growing and teeth are more conducive to straightening.

Life with braces can take some getting used to. Depending on the type of braces teens get, they will need to learn how to brush and floss around their braces and maybe even avoid certain foods, such as hard candy. With braces, they can still play sports and a musical instrument, and the results are worth it.

In a year or two, when the braces come off, your teen will have a smile to be proud of. Parents tell us they can actually see the boost in their teens’ self-esteem!

Adult Orthodontic Treatment

Braces aren’t just for kids and teens. According to the American Association of Orthodontists, there are more than 1.4 million adult orthodontic patients in the U.S. and Canada. Not only are one in five patients adults, the number of adults getting braces jumped 40 percent in the last few years.

The fact is, teeth can be moved at any age. It’s never too late to flash the world the smile you deserve. With advances in adult orthodontic care, there are many discreet options including ceramic braces or Invisalign Aligners.

Fixing overcrowding and tooth alignment can also help prevent dental issues later in life.

What Are the Benefits of Braces?

Braces help straighten crooked teeth. They can also fix bite problems so teeth and jaws align better. When it’s all over and your braces are off, you’ll not only have a more attractive smile, but a healthier one, too. Kids and adults with crowding or overbite issues tend to have more periodontal problems. Fact is, straight teeth are easier to keep clean.

What Is Invisalign?

An alternative to metal braces, Invisalign technology offers a series of custom-made, clear and removable aligner trays that can gradually shift teeth horizontally, vertically and even rotate them, if necessary, over time. Invisalign uses the right amount of force at the right time to perfect your smile. Whether teeth are crowded, too far apart or shifted after wearing braces earlier in life, Invisalign can fine-tune your smile without the discomfort of braces. It’s suitable for adults and teens.
